What To Say In Your Groom Wedding Speech

Preparing your own wedding is going to be exciting times. Thousands of things starting from guest lists, reception setup, menu, music, flowers, cakes to tuxedos have to be taken care of. I can tell you, you won’t believe how much actual work it is if you haven’t been through it yet.

This makes it easy to forget the importance of your own groom wedding speech. Always keep in mind that this speech is not written for your amusement but to show your wife how much you love her, to show her parents that you respect them and to thank everybody who made the effort to be there at your big day.

Talk about your feelings and what you think about your wife. You don’t have to be a romantic poet to write and perform a good groom wedding speech just be yourself. Of course you can push it and make Shakespeare blush if you can.

It is always good to include interesting and romantic quotes into your speech. Go online and search for a god wedding speech book or collection of quotes to source from. If you use a wedding speech book the quotes will already be preselected for you, if not, go and look for quotes about love, marriage or wisdom. If you can find something that you can relate to your bride, the better.

Bring up positive memories and shared moments. Talk about where you have met, how you have spend time together and about the moment when you decided to get married. Did you fall on your knees or did something extraordinaire special? Share it with the audience.

Also don’t forget to thank everybody who is somehow involved with the wedding. T starts with the obviously most important persons like bride, her parents and best man but the list goes on and you can include your family, the guests, people who helped organizing or even the band playing at the reception.

I really hope this gave you enough ideas to see what makes a good groom wedding speech and I hope you will find as much joy writing it as I did.

Groom and Bride Speeches

When it comes to your and your wife’s speeches on the big day you might need to consider groom and bride speeches together. Even if you don’t want to spoil the surprise by writing the speeches together, you should still consider sharing the ideas you are thinking to talk about and coordinating a little bit what both of you are going to say.

You don’t want to end up talking exactly about the same things on the big day?

Coordinate All Speeches

You don’t necessarily have to have separate speeches for groom and bride, some couples do one together. For some couples this is a hard decision to make, if you haven’t decided yet what to do, you should better decide before actually writing the speech.

It is important to consider all kinds of speeches that will be hold during the wedding. Whether it is the groom wedding speech, the father of the bride speech or the the best man’s speech. It’s a good idea to discuss with them the correct order of the speeches and at least outline a little bit what you are going to say. Nobody wants to hear the same story from five different people after all.

Inspiration For The Perfect Wedding Speeches

Whether you and your wife will have separate speeches or not, it is a good idea to talk to her in early stages to discuss ideas that you both share. Chances are that you both will have similar topics to talk about but the other partner can always give a nice little twist to every shared story.

If you are coordinating your groom and bride speeches, there are a few basic ideas you can come up with. You could for one avoid talking about the same topic at all – this might be hard though because both of you would like to talk about certain shared memories.

The other extreme is to talk about the same topics all the way long. This can lead to a really interesting groom and bride wedding speech when talk about the same topics both of you from his own point of view. You might come up with some really funny groom wedding speeches if everybody gives a totally different version of the same story – this is a great setup for a memorable groom and bride wedding speech!

Groom Wedding Speech Tips

Making the groom wedding speech is a big part of the wedding party. I can tell you that it is quite daunting just to think about it that you will have to stand up in public, every ones eyes on you and you will have to talk. I have spend days in searching for good groom wedding speech tips online myself when writing my speech.

One basic tip is to talk to your bride before deciding on any details of your speech. Especially if she is going to hold her own speech, it is really important to coordinate what each of you both is going to talk about. After all you want to avoid repetition.

Also never forget to thank everybody as I already mentioned before. If you think about it, the list is endless. Thank everyone who could come. Thank for their wedding presents and the long journey that have made to be there at your special day. Thank everybody who has helped organizing the wedding and don’t forget to mention previous speakers.

You should especially thank your best man and the bride’s maids. Include your parents as well and thank them that they have made you to the man you are. Once you are there, always mention your lovely bride who has chosen you to spend the rest of her life with you and don’t ever forget to thank her parents that they allow you to become part of their family.

Try to cheer up the crowd with some light wedding jokes but ensure that you are not upsetting anybody. You want to avoid negative remarks at all costs!

Another great groom wedding speech tip is to talk about your relationship with the bride. Talk about how you’ve met or other memorable moments that you both share. Mention the engagement if you like and have time as well – always try to bring in your personal feelings, this is your groom speech and not a news paper article after all!

Given all these groom wedding speech tips you might be tempted to make your speech overly long. Therefore, here another last and important tip to reduce the times to “not boring”. If you are a fast talker around 4-7 minutes should be enough. If you want to go past 10 minutes, you rather have some exciting stories to tell before people fall asleep!

Funny Groom Wedding Speech – Why Make People Laugh

Your wedding is going to be a big day for you and the bride. Every effort you make to to ensure a successful event will be recognized by your guests. Everything you do, how you act has a direct impact and the groom wedding speech is your moment to shine and to make a memorable impression on everybody. With a little bit of humor you can give your guests something to remember.

If you write a funny groom wedding speech, it will last in the memories of all guests for a long time. If you do it right, people will always remember this moment and talk about it even years after. You will have to decide what to say – something funny and not offensive. Keep in mind that everybody has to find it funny, not just a few people in the audience.

I sat down for a while to think about the audience to ensure you hit the right style and type of jokes. It is really an art to write a funny groom wedding speech but at the end it is a very good feeling if you get your audience laughing with you.

Write Your Own Funny Groom Wedding Speech

For the best effect you will have to write your speech yourself. After all – who knows your audience and your family better? Who knows better what kind of jokes will be appropriate, which won’t? If you write your own groom wedding speech you will also more likely to be able to remember everything and deliver it with authenticity.

It is essential that you test your groom wedding speech a few times in real life before the big day. Ask a few friends or family members to take the time listening to your groom speech. They can give you honest feedback ahead of time and if things need to be polished or changed you will still have enough time to do so before the wedding.

A funny groom wedding speech has to be short and to the point. Try to deliver the punch line at the appropriate time. It takes a little bit of practice and you will do better if you read a lot of other funny groom wedding speeches to get some ideas what can work and what not. Ideally you will have more than just one joke – this will help you to get the people in the right mood and to have a second chance if your first joke fails. Remember to test your speech on friends or family – if you got them to laugh, continued laughter will be yours during the wedding. This will also ensure that you get full attention from your audience.

As a last tip – when delivering a funny groom wedding speech always be prepared to react to the situations on the day, try to read your audience as you go and don’t be afraid of going off the script.

Don’t Say the Wrong Thing in Your Groom Wedding Speech

Not pleasing everybody during your groom wedding speech is one thing but saying the wrong things could be a real nightmare. I really wanted to avoid this so I made sure to look up a lot of resources about the perfect groom wedding speech to avoid this.

Avoid Alcohol before Your Speech

I am sure you remember one or two situations where you have people getting out of control under the influence of alcohol. While I prepared my groom speech really well, I didn’t want to take the risk to mess it up due to too much drinking early on. I simply stick to one glass of champagne and I did not regret it! Having a clear head when delivering your groom wedding speech will make your life a lot easier.

No Negative Things About Anybody

The groom wedding speech is definitely not the place to talk bad or negative about anybody. Even if you think it could be funny, you should always consider the feelings of everybody involved and your audience. Never ever put negative experiences with anybody into your speech.

If you are unsure about something, just think it through again. Would anybody be upset by what you are saying? If so, it is a clear indicator to skip that!

Foremost Please Your Bride

It’s all about your bride on this day. Never forget that she probably have been dreaming of this big day all her life long (something you probably didn’t!). For her this day can’t be perfect enough. Try everything to make her feel special today.

Don’t even mention past relationships or negative character of your bride – I have been to weddings where it did happen and guess what, it didn’t go down well at all. Except the drunk best man nobody found it funny. Look at all the positives of your bride, that will guarantee the perfect groom speech.

As a last tip it is good to remember not to make your speech last too long. Think about roughly 4-5 minutes as the ideal length, depending of course on your own presentation style you might do a minute longer or shorter.

How to Please Everyone in Your Groom Wedding Speech

A groom wedding speech is a traditional speech at every wedding. Therefore it is not completely free but has to follow certain structure and conventions to ensure you are not upsetting anybody. It took me a while to realize but studying many other groom wedding speeches I finally found that one core thing is to mention and thank everybody involved in the wedding.

Go From General to Specific When Thanking

It is important that you really thank everybody at the wedding. Of course you won’t be able to list up everybody, therefore you start by the general audience first and work yourself to the more specifics as you go. Specifically address people who traveled long or had to make a special effort to make it. This will go down really well.

After that you should thank your best man, the bride and at last the parents of the bride. Especially mention the father of the bride as he will hold a speech himself and probably talk about you. You can put the parents at last as they are most important – don’t use phrases as “last but not least” or it will ruin their importance. Don’t just thank them in a short sentence but describe what they mean to you and what they bring to the table – this will make them more special than the rest of the audience.

Talk About Your Family

It is a classic one and you have probably heard about it. Even though most people already know how you have met your bride, talking about that in your groom wedding speech is a great idea. It will set a positive and emotional tone for the evening and please everybody who made the effort to come to your wedding.

I also would suggest to add some stories about your own family. Of course, not just random details but talk about how important they are in your life and what they have given you over the last years. After all it is them you have thank to be there.

Remember, the wedding is mainly about your love to your wife and everybody would like to be part of it. You will have all your family and friends around you that evening. I was quite nervous about my own groom wedding speech but once I realized who I will have to include into my speech, things got a lot easier. You can please everybody without too much effort.

5 Tips for a Successful Groom Wedding Speech Presentation

Did you know that almost 85% of all people holding a public speech forget whole paragraphs of their speech?

When I practiced for my groom wedding speech I could barely remember every third sentence. I spend hours and hours just trying to learn it but I was too excited – how bad would the real speech be?

Just image you standing in front of the audience not remembering the beginning of your speech or the name of your bride’s father? If you don’t prepare your wedding speech and the presentation you might as well not show up to your wedding ceremony at all.

So, here are 5 tips to help you remembering your groom wedding speech on your big day as easy as you remember your very first own car.

1. Practice Emotionally

It is proven that people remember things a lot easier if you connect your speech with emotions. Try to put something emotional that moves you and pleasant memories or feelings into every paragraph of you groom speech. When practicing your speech, vividly image in front of your eyes the feelings that you are talking about.

2. Visualize Your Audience When Practicing

It will help your memory on your big day a lot if you visualize your audience when practicing. You should roughly know the seating setup or who is going to be at the wedding. When rehearsing your groom wedding speech, simply imagine yourself already holding it in front of a real audience. Actively imagine your bride, her parents or other persons that will be at the wedding – if you see them at the actual ceremony, it will make it easier for you to remember everything.

3. Practice in Front of a Real Audience

Practice in front of a mirror first but then get live audience in. Don’t be shy and call your friends, your bride, your mum or dad or just a random stranger from the streets. If you want to succeed it is crucial that you practice delivering your groom wedding speech at least once or twice in front of real people.

4. Practice Using a Camcorder

While using a mirror is fine, if you have access to a camcorder to record yourself while practicing will make a difference. You will instantly see how you stand, hold your hands or where you scratch yourself when thinking about words. Better you see it first on a video than your in laws on the big day, right? You have time to fix it.

5. Repeat Steps 1-4

If you think reading and considering the above tips is enough, think again. If you want to deliver a successful wedding speech, you have to put in a lot more effort. Just planning to practice the speech won’t help you at all, you actually have to sit down and run through the speech many times. If you think you are ready for the speech, do another test run just to be safe. You will feel a lot more confident and deliver an exceptional speech during the ceremony if doing this right.

If you are following these tips you are on your way to be the top 15% speakers who perform well during a speech. If you want to make your groom wedding speech a success, practice, practice, practice. And then – practice a bit more using some additional tips for your groom wedding speech.

Tips to Plan Your Groom Wedding Speech

When Jodey and I decided to get married I knew that I will have to write my own groom wedding speech. However, I did not realize how hard it can be! The reality is we were busy preparing so many other things that I just left it for weeks and weeks before I only had about a month left to the wedding.

You know what? Don’t make the same mistake and wait until last minute. Just plan ahead and start writing your groom wedding speech as early as possible.

It’s easy to be intimidated by writing your own groom speech. After all, you will have to stand in front of everybody, saying the right things and make it funny while everybody is just watching you. Believe me, the feeling alone can be pretty nerve-wracking!

The wedding date got closer and closer and while I tried to come up with some great inspirational ideas to write a charming groom wedding speech, ideas just didn’t come to me. So eventually I simply sat down and wrote down whatever thoughts popped into my head. I know that there are better ways to plan a groom wedding speech but for me I just had to get started.

It was difficult at the beginning, but then I used speech prompts and guides helping me to uncover some hidden ideas. Soon I started to write down all the little details and ideas I had about me and Jodey. Simple things, just where and how we have met, how well we get along, some of our greatest moments like the long holidays we had a year ago in Europe. And of course about the moment I asked her to be my wife. It really helped to just write down how I see and what I feel about the relationship.

It is probably the best not to worry too much about details and content of your wedding speech yet. Don’t even think about puns or wedding speech jokes. The first and biggest block to get your perfect wedding speech written is never actually starting to write it. By simply starting to write down my feelings and thoughts I was already on my way to have the groom wedding speech written. Don’t wait too long, just start writing.
